About Hazardous Waste Drop-Off

Hazardous Waste Drop-Off tells you where you can take old paint, chemicals, motor oil, batteries and other household hazardous waste, and whether that site will take you.

Why it exists

Most drop-off sites are run by a city or county, and each one only describes itself. Some take only their own residents. Some take neighbors, but only with a voucher from their own city. Some take anyone for a fee. No one puts those rules side by side, so people load the car and get turned away. We read every program's rules and match them to the cities they serve.

Who runs it

Hazardous Waste Drop-Off is a small, independent project. We are not a government agency and not connected to any program we list. For anything about safety, follow the program's own instructions.

How we check

Every fact comes from the program's own website or its rules documents, and each listing shows the date we last checked it. When a program doesn't say something, we leave it out instead of guessing. More on how we check.

What we cover

123 programs across Austin, TX, Dallas-Fort Worth, TX, Houston, TX and San Antonio, TX. The rest of Texas is next, then other states.

What we won't do
